The Meaning Behind Veggera
The name “Veggera” is more than just a word, it’s a symbol of Cretan culture. In the Cretan dialect, it refers to a gathering of people who come together to share life’s moments, whether it’s joy during a celebration or comfort during hardships. This deep-rooted tradition inspired me to create an experience that goes beyond cooking.
At Veggera, my goal is to connect visitors with the essence of Crete. Through food, stories, and hands on activities, I want to share the beauty of our island’s heritage and invite you to feel like part of the Cretan family. Every recipe has a story, every moment holds meaning, and every guest leaves with a piece of Crete in their heart.

About Me
Hello! My name is Paraskevas, and I’m the proud creator of Veggera. Born and raised in Stylos, Crete, I grew up immersed in the traditions of our island, learning recipes from my grandmother, tending to the family garden, and celebrating life with music and food.
Veggera is a reflection of my life’s passion: to preserve and share the unique culture of Crete. When you join me, you’re not just taking part in a cooking lesson—you’re stepping into my world, where every detail is infused with love for our heritage. Together, we’ll cook, laugh, and create unforgettable memories.

Definitely one of the best parts of my trip. I was curious how authentic the experience would be, it far exceeded my expectations. Sophia and her family do such an amazing job of opening their home and their farm and sharing. The kindness, the amazing food, the interesting stories and conversations, made it feel so much more than just a tourist cooking class. I highly recommend the experience to anyone that wants to meet a great wholesome family that's doing an amazing job sharing their love of family, community and the amazing cuisine. I got to meet three generations of the family and they were all wonderful.Posted on Laurens Van de WalleTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Our visit to Veggera was nothing short of magical. We learned how to prepare authentic local dishes, guided by warm and knowledgeable hosts. While our creations baked in the oven, we explored the charming farm grounds and even had the chance to milk goats—a truly hands-on experience! From start to finish, it was immersive, fun, and unforgettable. Highly recommended for anyone looking to connect with nature and culture in a meaningful way.Posted on Merrilee BarnesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We had a wonderful experience at Veggera. Sophia and her family very warmly welocmed us to their beautiful rural home and cooking school where we prepared and shared a delicious lunchtime meal. We visited their animals and garden (and even Ya ya!) and learned about how they make olive oil, cheese, honey and wine. This was definitely a highlight of our trip to Crete. We highly recommended it!Posted on MendiTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Wat een geweldige ervaring was dit. Heel blij dat we dit gedaan hebben. Traditioneel Grieks leren koken op een prachtige locatie met een geweldige familie die zoveel liefde stoppen in het runnen van deze plek. Een dikke aanrader!Posted on Hannah SwaderTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My mom and I went to Veggera in September and it was the highlight of our trip and a day we will never forget. The entire family is so welcoming and we loved getting to meet them, their friends that were visiting, and the other travelers that had booked that day. We cooked, we chatted about the world and our cultures, walked around the farm and met all the animals, learned about olive oil, wine, and honey production, and finally we feasted over all our hard work. The whole family joined in and there was lots of wine to be had along with music and dancing. We honestly never wanted to leave and will be recommending this to anyone visiting Crete.Posted on Roel WeertsTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I can honestly say that this was one of the best experiences we had in Crete. We went to Crete with our family to celebrate our parents' 40th wedding anniversary and gave them this cooking workshop as a present. From the moment we arrived we felt very welcomed by the family. They have a beautiful farm with an outdoor kitchen where you get to learn all about Chania's culture and food. When I told them about the 40th wedding anniversary gift, they even arranged a cake to cellebrate. If you want to dive into the Cretan cooking traditions, I highly recommend this workshop. Our family loved it. If I could, I would have given them more than 5 stars. Kindest regards from the Netherlands!Posted on Linda HadallerTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Wow! This is a cooking class that is more than a cooking class. Our group of 4 visited on 21 October, 2025. We were very happy to meet Sophia, and her mother Sophia, her grandmother Sophia and her neice, you guessed it, Sophia! This is a glimpse into a self-sustaining working family farm. A few goats and rabbits, olive and fruit trees, wine making, olive oil producing actual farm. Sophia instructed us on preparing traditional dishes cooked in earthenware dishes in an outdoor wood fired oven. We also made use of an outdoor fire to cook cheese and onion stuffed fried treats. The dough was made from flour, olive oil, raki and salt and pepper. We were enlightened on the quantity and quality of olive oil used in Cretan cooking. Sophia's knife skills demonstrated her previous culinary background. Paraskevas showed us the farm, helped us to milk goats, took us to meet his grandmother and played traditional Cretan music on the mandolin. Overall this was a fabulous experience highlighting family life on Crete.Posted on Stefi SchluepTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
